What is Title 1?
What is Title I?
Title I is a federally funded program which began in 1965 to ensure a high quality education for EVERY child and especially to provide services to students who are at risk of not meeting state academic standards. Schools in Buncombe County having 40% or more of students receiving free or reduced lunch qualify for these funds. Each of these schools must submit a comprehensive needs assessment, plan and budget prioritizing the spending of funds. These documents are created in collaboration with all stakeholders (principal, teachers, families, students). Each school is required to create a Family Engagement Compact in collaboration with stakeholders stating the responsibilities of all involved members and each member has to sign the compact and review these documents annually.
