Karen Joslin
I am a 29 year veteran teacher who has worked in a variety of positions during my career.  I began teaching 5th grade in 1990 after graduating with a major in elementary education and a minor in theatre arts from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.  I immediately found my passion teaching in a paired Title I reading program and went back to college to get my reading certification and begin graduate work in curriculum design.  In 2005 I earned my National Board Certification in Literacy.  I have also taught 3rd grade and been a technology specialist in the Rowan Salisbury School System.  In 2006 I moved to the Asheville area to launch the Title I program at Haw Creek.  I have two daughters that graduated 5th grade at Haw Creek.  One is working at Eliada Homes in Asheville and the other is studying biology at Western Carolina University.  I enjoy reading (go figure), especially fantasy.  My absolute favorite author is JRR Tolkien.  I also enjoy going to the theater, writing,  working in my garden, horseback riding, and hiking in our beautiful mountains.
