Welcome to 4th grade!

Welcome to the 4th grade! This year is going to be an exciting experience for all of us. I am new to Haw Creek Elementary this year, and I’m sure you’re wondering all about your new teacher. This is my twelfth year teaching. For ten years, I taught 3rd and 4th grade in Pamlico County which is on the coast of North Carolina. The mountains have been calling my name for years, so I moved to Asheville in September of 2016. I took some time off teaching from August through December to spend more time on hobbies and pursuing my passions. This January I started working with first graders at Candler Elementary as an assistant while I continued my journey of personal growth. I am excited to be teaching 4th grade again. I have been so impressed with the Haw Creek community and school. It is such a privilege to be your teacher this year!

Before living in North Carolina, my home was in Ohio. I was born and raised in a very small Ohio town. I grew up on a farm with goats, chickens, cows, and pigs. I attended Ohio University and graduated in 2006. In July of that same year I got my first teaching job. Since that time, I’ve continued learning and growing both professionally and personally. In recent years, I’ve studied herbal medicine, became a beekeeper, joined a clogging team, and started playing old-time fiddle. I also built a tiny house on wheels with my family. It is currently located in East Asheville. I am learning to speak Spanish and I enjoy traveling the world, kayaking, camping, cooking vegetarian meals, gardening, sewing and knitting. I can’t wait to share some of my hobbies with you as we learn together this year. I am excited to begin this learning adventure with each one of you.
