I have been teaching in Buncombe County Schools since 2003, having also taught at Eblen Intermediate School, West Buncombe Elementary School, Enka Middle School, and Emma Elementary School.  I moved to Asheville in 2003 from Guam, where I taught high school for 4.5  years.  I lived in Guam for a total of 10 years, having moved there in 1993 to fulfill a sense of adventure and to pursue my Bachelor's degree in education in special education at the University of Guam. I have been a teacher since 1998, although I have taken a year off with each of my children when they were babies.

I am originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I briefly lived in Chicago and Israel as a child and spent most of my childhood growing up in California - from San Diego to Arcata, spending my pre-teen and teen years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Asheville is the 19th city I have lived in! I love to travel, two of my favorite places outside of the U.S. that I visited were Bali and Thailand.  I hope that my past experiences will enhance my techniques and strategies for working with the diverse backgrounds and needs of my students.

In 2012 I became a National Board Certified Teacher.   My husband, Rich teaches Science at North Buncombe High School and we have two children. Micah is in 6th grade at Reynolds Middle School and Cassandra is in 9th grade at Reynolds High School.
