Hello, wonderful third graders and families!  My name is Ms. Scheiner-Dendy, and I am so excited to be at the start of another school year at Haw Creek Elementary School!  I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces over in the third grade pod this year!

This will be my third year teaching at HCES, my 5th year working at HCES, my 9th year as a lead teacher, and the start of my 11th year with Buncombe County Schools.
Some of you may know me from 2nd grade these past two years and from around the school before that.  Prior to my time here at HCES, I taught 3rd grade at Glen Arden Elementary until my daughter was born in 2009.  I left the classroom to focus on my family at that time, but remained involved in education by providing private tutoring services over the years and then eased back into my teaching career in 2015 by spending a year working part-time as a STAR teacher and then a year as a 4th/5th grade assistant.

I grew up in New York State and moved to Asheville in 2003.  While in New York State, I received my Bachelor’s in Philosophy & Religion and my Master’s in Teaching, K-6.  As a teacher, I love continuing to learn new ways to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  It is my goal to create a nurturing classroom community where we will all feel welcome, appreciated, and supported as we take the risks necessary for learning and growth.

Outside of school, you can find me enjoying family time with my husband and 9-year-old daughter, visiting with friends and extended family, hiking, biking, and otherwise exploring our beautiful surroundings.

I truly look forward to spending this year with your child and helping each student have a successful year in third grade.  I believe that parent-teacher communication is such an important part of a successful school experience for your child.  Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns throughout the year.
